SNL’s Michael Che Still Insists Boston Is The Most Racist City In America

wenn24830374-500x750

Pretty much.” – J. Harvey, Bostonian

Michael Che’s a co-anchor on Saturday Night Live contribution to fake news – Weekend Update. He had a shitty experience when it came to being a black guy visiting Boston, and alluded to it during his segment on the Superbowl weekend episode this year. If you’ll remember, it was the Pats vs. the Atlanta Falcons vs. Lady Gaga faking jumping off the roof of NRG Stadium.

“I just want to relax, turn my brain off, and watch the blackest city in America beat the most racist city I’ve ever been to.”

I am not even going to type who won here. As you can expect, Michael received some pushback on this opinion on social media. He brought it up during his set at Boston University this week, and the paper of record (I worked there for many years so I’m biased. And besides, the Boston Herald is gross anyways.) here in the Hub noted his response to that.

Via The Boston Globe:

Sitting on a stool, Che was relaxed, sometimes pausing mid-sentence to laugh at one of his own jokes. Che told the crowd he stands by a comment he made on “SNL” the night before the Super Bowl: Boston is “the most racist city” he’s ever been to.

Che said he received a lot of angry messages on social media after making the statement, including one from a woman who was particularly upset. But rather than explaining himself, Che said, he responded with this: “Talk to your closest black friend and ask them to explain it to you.” To which she responded: “Touche.”

Again – pretty much.” – J. Harvey, Bostonian

The Daily Mail notes that someone on Reddit mentioned that Michael revealed that his opinion stems from an incident where he wasn’t let into a bar in Boston.

According to Reddit user hkepchar, who was in the BU audience Thursday, Che says he was burnt by the city of Boston when the SNL funnyman was allegedly denied entry into a local bar because he was wearing ‘new Jordans’.

Bouncers told the New Yorker that sneakers were against the dress code, even though other people inside were also wearing sneakers. Clearly, the experience left Che with a bad impression of Beantown.

Boston is a lovely city. We have some of the best schools and medical facilities in the world, we’ve got the lock on pro sports if that’s your thing, we’re the promised land if you like boozing, and we demonstrated just how strong and classy we can be after two dickfucks killed and maimed a whole bunch of people during our yearly marathon.

That being said, holy shite, yeah, Boston’s totally got a problem with racism. When one of the more enduring images from your city’s history is that of a white man trying to murder a black man with the American flag, well…*uncomfortable silence*

Can I request that Michael tackle Boston’s other huge fault next time? Mark Wahlberg is from here. We’re sorry for that, too. *sad-face*

Donald Trump Refuses to Say If He’ll Accept the Election Results, Insists He Should Have Won an Emmy

Donald Trump, who began talking about rigged elections right around the time his numbers started dropping, said Wednesday he won’t commit to accepting the results of the election without seeing whether or not he wins, despite the fact that that same day, his daughter said he would. He did, however, briefly discuss the Emmy Awards, another contest he has never won—according to Trump, they are definitely rigged.
